After hiking the half dozen short loop trails at Red Rock State Park (highly recommended) for two hours I looked for a spot to eat.  With the current on-going (when will it ever end?) road construction at the Sedona Y I was anxious to find a patio restaurant in West Sedona along 89.  Out of the corner of my eye I noticed the words "Gourmet Salads" with what appeared to be outside umbrellas.

I arrived at high noon on Sunday and was the first to eat outside.  I have no idea why everyone was eating inside when there was partial shade in the patio.  The view was nothing to brag about with only the tops of the red rocks in view but at least the temps were pleasant. I started with a few gulps of water followed by a small portion of Oak Creek Nut Brown.  I chose the fresh berry-licious salad with mixed greens, strawberries mixed with feta and glazed walnuts, tossed with a  berry-balsamic dressing with an orange slice.  Despite all of the awards on the wall the salad was good but I have tasted better.

As I started the salad my hand slipped and the Oak Creek Nut Brown found its way to the floor with the sound of glass shattering.  No one was around so did it really break or was I imagining it?  Well it actually broke so had to finish off the salad with water.  Just as well I suppose as I had to navigate the maze of construction between the Y and Bell Rock followed by 11 new rotaries on 179...

My family and I went to this place for dinner after spending the day in Jerome. We have been wanting to try this place out for a while and my son has a special place in his heart for pizza.

The place was very compact in the dining area..servers were constantly bumping into my chair and the two tables next to us were way too close. it was awkward when anyone needed to get up.

We ordered a basic pepperoni pizza for the kids and we ordered an alfredo, shrimp, bacon pizza. It sounded delicious and different. When the food arrived we dug right in. The first thing that we noticed about the alfredo pizza was how watery the alfredo sauce was. After taking a bite I thought it was ok and then after the next two bites the salt taste in the pizza was way too much. The sauce was salty, the bacon added more salty taste, and the shrimp was salty. My husband rarely complains about his food and he even said that there was no way he could eat anymore of it. This was a small pizza that cost about $14 and I had to say something about it.

When the waitress came over we told her that the pizza was way too salty and we could not eat it. She then tells us that she knew it was bad but didn't want to say anything. WHY ???? Anyway they replaced it with the pepperoni, since the kids said it was ok. The pizza was alright...the best to me was the crust..but nothing great.

The manager did come over to apologize and took our pizza off the bill....all while his zipper was undone...LOL !!! That made our night.

I'm beginning to feel like I live in an art gallery.

Wolfgang Puck is not the only chef who likes to play with pizza.  This pizza place turned out to be more like a very nice restaurant.

Four of us dropped in for a late lunch, and found the restaurant about half full.  We ordered a large chopped salad and a large Bourbon Street pizza.  As usual, the beverages were 1 tea, 2 iced teas, and a diet Coke.  The tab was $52 + tip.

Apparently this restaurant is famous for its salads.  Our chopped salad was made with romaine, and just enough oil and vinegar to bind and sweeten the composition.  In fact, it took me two or three bites to confirm there was any dressing at all.  The salad was light and fresh.

I wanted the Bourbon pizza because I like andouille sausage.  That, with another sausage, caramelized onions, mozzarella and fontina, made this a flavorful composition that really satisfied.  The onions were sweet; we couldn't decide whether they were maui or bermuda, but they were that sweet.  The red sauce was a full-flavored wine sauce, and we loved it.

There's a wine list of German whites, California reds, a real chianti, and more.  There's a full bar, too.  And when I visited the men's room, I had to go back and get my camera.  This truly is an art town, but it turns out Picazzo has franchises all over Arizona.

This place deserves maybe a 3.5.  The pizza was good, but not great, and I felt like the inside was a bit too cafeteria-like for my tastes, with tables packed in one after the other.  If you go, definitely ask for seating in the outdoor patio area.  And definitely get the Roasted Garlic and Brie!!  Those guys do a great job when it comes to appetizers and salads, and that one in particular made our evening.

Eh. Pizza that tries too hard. And, they close at 9pm! I actually saw them turn someone away at 9:10. The bartender who serves the bar eating area was completely disinterested in us after we failed to order alcoholic drinks. The salad was drenched, like literally dripping, with dressing. And when the pizza arrived, the "thin" crust was more like domino's thickest and softest, toppings were fresh but unimaginative and the tomato sauce just that...a sauce of tomatoes, no hints of italian seasoning at all. That said, it was a sophisticated place, all high ceilings and red rock views. A loud, boisterous, family friendly venue. But, if you are a pizza connoisseur you won't be blown away and if you particularly enjoy thin crust, NY style pie, you probably won't even be sated.

Pizza Picazzo makes sense, because it has the sort of decor that is meant to draw in the California tourists, the sort of food that anyone in Sedona would enjoy (the pizza is actually damn good), and outdoor sprinklers to appease the families with whining overheated children. All of the salads are delicious and I was initially delighted when this restaurant opened in Sedona.

Sort of a take off on CPK.  There were quite a few choices of pizza, almost too many in fact; it was hard to choose.  When the food arived every choice was a good one.  Pizza is always good, but not every "new" type of pizza delivers, Picazzo's did.

Delicious pizza with an excellent crust - crisp and chewy and flavorful.  The portions for the lunch special were generous to say the least.

Deliciously enjoyable.  Lots of pizza combinations to choose from; we ended up with a half Vortex and a half Shrimp Scampi (you can order any pizza as a half and half) as well as the Pear/Gorgonzola salad.  The salad was great and the carmelized onions and sweet peppers made the Vortex amazing.  The Shrimp Scampi was a bit too creamy cheesy but still tasty.

Ambiance is comfortable; there's a separate bar area and you can also order drinks at your table.  I liked the wine sampler where you could choose 4 out of 12 different wines.

Good Pizza, topping were generous.  Crust was crisp and flaky, watch the garlic.  Have the browine w/ vanilla ice cream!!! Good...   Only drawback is that the sedona scene is really weird... they had Tour de France on TV in the bar... whats that all about?

Yummy. Not only can you choose wheat crust, or a cheese-less pizza - they have prickly pear martinis. We went for happy hour: dollar off drinks and half-price appetizers. The wings were very flavorful without burring my mouth from spice. They food is very fresh and the bar area is also very comfortable. Interesting pizza's offered. Can't wait until they come to the Chicago area!

Happy hour starts at 4:00 and goes until 7:00!!   $1.00 off all drinks and 1/2 off appetizers.  Its perfect after a hike in the amazing Sedona red rock area.

Tyler is the consummate bartender, showing up before your glass is empty or  your plate of brownie scrapped clean.   He also squeezes fresh grapefruits for all grapefruit drinks.  Yum!  so refreshing!

Later in the week we had a party for 20 on the patio.  The wait staff was perfect & pleasant the entire evening.  The salads are fab, pizza's are quite good (better the next morning before a hike.) and I hear from our friends  that the gluten free pizza crust was the best they'd had.

This place looked pretty cool and the decor was great too. I went during lunch, and there were a lot of choices to make. Picazzo has a variety of pizzas, salads and other standard American fare. What was cool was the types of salads...very innovative.  I had a lunch combo, with a slice of cheese pizza and a greek salad, with a choice of drink.

Food came out relatively quickly and the portions were decent.  My friend had a cheese pizza and the berrylicious salad, which smelled great. The strawberries were huge!

We skipped dessert, but the choices sounded delicious (various types of cookies).  What else was cool was that there was a fantastic view of Coffeepot Rock, which enhanced the atmosphere.

The pizza here is good, but a bit heavy on the garlic.  I went to this place twice and asked for no garlic the second time and the pizza had much more flavor.

The salads are great, and come in massive portions.  The small will easily feed two people as an appetizer.  I enjoyed the fresh pear and gorgonzola salad.  The greek salad was good too, but seemed like your standard greek salad.

For deserts I give this place 5 stars.  I had the Chocolate Chunk cookie topped with ice cream, whip cream and chocolate sauce.  The cookies comes out in a skillet piping hot, with the cream on top.  The cookie is about 6 inches across and an inch deep.  It is more like a cookie-brownie.  I barely came up for air.
